The gap in the availability of easy read images for sensitive topics.

Over the many years I have spent creating easy read content, I have consistently observed a significant gap in the availability of accessible, easy read images that address challenging and sensitive topics such as abuse, sexuality, health screening, and illness.

These are critical areas where clear and approachable imagery is often needed but rarely available.

Being involved in creating a large collection of line-drawn images that explored various themes of sexuality using this simplified technique, I was able to convey a sense of clarity, making this selection of images both visually striking and easily interpretable.

But when working solely within the constraints of photographic imagery has posed considerable challenges. Many of these sensitive situations are simply not possible to capture through traditional photography due to ethical concerns, privacy issues, or the nature of the subject matter.

This realisation inspired me to develop a photorealistic style. By transitioning from photography to drawing, I am able to create realistic depictions of these complex subjects while maintaining sensitivity and clarity.

With my years of experience in easy read image creation, this shift has provided a unique opportunity for me to visually represent difficult and often unspoken topics in a way that is both accessible and impactful.
